Welcome to Mia's site!  This website was a surprise for and dedication to my wife Mia, as she took cancer head-on.  Mia's radiation and chemotherapy treatments started on Monday, July 24, 2006.  She completed her treatments on December 12, 2006.  Mia remains in remission and continues to live strong.

During Mia's treatments, this web site served as a source of information for family and friends following her progress.  When Mia completed her radiation and chemotherapy treatments, we considered shutting the web site down.  However, we began to receive emails from other cancer patients and caregivers that were finding useful information and encouragement from the web site.  Consequently, we decided to keep the web site up, but we must admit that we've neglected the site for some time.  In January 2008, we recommitted ourselves to reshaping the web site to provide addition lessons learned and information about things Mia has been doing to remain cancer free.  Our hope is that this information may be useful to others.  Regards, David Shearer

About Mia (Maureen) Shearer
On July 3, 2006, my wife Mia was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.  This is a rare cancer that was originally thought to be a cyst or swollen adenoid.  Unfortunately, that was not the case.  Like a growing number of people, Mia fought to be free of cancer and to live strong.  She had a lot of help along the way.

We believe in the work the Lance Armstrong Foundation's is leading.  We certainly see the need.  So we just want to join the positive energy and results of those that choose to be empowered, informed, and to live strong despite cancer.
